How I became a morning person

*BONNNNGGGG* there goes my alarm. The glorious sound that I get to wake up to every morning at 8:00 in the morning. Yes, even during the summer with no classes, or a job (thanks COVID-19 by the way). I know all of you who have known me in the past know me as the girl who could easily wake up at one in the afternoon and go to bed at three in the morning. That was me up until 2020.
This year has been life-changing in a lot of ways for basically everyone on the face of the Earth, but for me to suddenly become a morning person with no caffeine is the craziest thing to ever happen to me. I mean, in the past, my friends would be worried about why I was up so early if I woke up before noon. So how did I do it?
For a while back in 2019, I had a daily alarm set for 10:00-unless I had work or my 9:30 class that day. Otherwise, I pushed myself on the weekends to wake up two hours later than I do now, and I struggled to get up. I would stay in bed until noon, sometimes later, and do everything in my power to stay awake. I also would take naps almost every single day.
Because of the spring semester of the 2019-2020 school year, I became a morning person (trust me, even I find that weird). I had a 9:30 class every single day and worked earlier on weekends for both of my jobs. It was still tough in the beginning and I highly relied on caffeine and naps. When stay at home orders were set in place, I kept my regular schedule, so as time went on, waking up got easier.
I was able to get up, do my schoolwork at the time I would have the actual class and then have the rest of the day to myself. When school ended, (surprise) I still kept setting my alarms for 8:00. I get up and usually start my day by going on a run and then do
a workout after. Usually, I’m out the door by 10:30.
As awesome as it is to have my whole day and not waste it in bed like I always have, I will admit I have turned into a party pooper. Going to bed past 11 is a miracle for me now. I have a moon tattooed on me because I was always a night owl. Oh, how the tables have turned, am I right? I was the girl who loved doing things at night. I would purposely make plans after my closing shifts at Panera solely so I can be out late.
Growing up, I was always told that as I get older, everything will catch up to me. I never believed anyone who told me that, but here we are. So, moral of the story is, if I can become an active morning person who suddenly doesn’t dread waking up, anyone can. It’s a difficult journey, but trust me, your body does get used to it and it will thank you-especially as you jump into the business world.
Now, I rarely drink caffeinated drinks or take naps.
