Maliki Warning, 19, is a superstar when it comes to sports. He did soccer, track and cross country to keep himself busy and in shape. He has played soccer since he was in seventh grade, track for a year and then cross country for five months.
Dreamereamer Blog: What made you stick with track, cross country, and soccer?
Warning: “Soccer, I stayed because the second coach was basically like my second family. His youngest son saw me as an inspiration. Track and cross country because their daughter pushed me to do better and do what I thought I couldn’t”
Q: Out of the three sports you played, what was your favorite?
A: “I’d have to say my time playing soccer was the best. I met a lot of great people and wasn’t doing the best outside of school and school activities.” Q: I can tell you like running, what draws you to that?
A: “Running was always something I had done my whole life since my parents didn’t have a car. I had to bike everywhere-to the grocery store or to have family time, so running was just biking but with my feet hitting the ground. I was always a good sprinter and had a good form without training previous.” Q: What was your proudest/defining moment playing these sports?
A: “I went to regionals and got seventh in the 200 and fourth in the 4x4 with only four weeks of training.” Q: What does a typical practice week/meet day look like?
A: “When I was in Oklahoma, they were usually hot and tiring, especially meets because I put my whole heart and body out to perform and give it my all. At practice, I put ¾ effort unless I was told to go all out. For cross country, we usually ran about six to seven miles every practice. For track, (I ran) my 200s and 400s with slight breaks in between.”
Q: Did you have to follow any strict diet plans given to you by your coach? If so, what were they?
A: “My only diet was to cut back on getting junk food and try my best to get high protein breakfast and lots of water.”
Q: Have you ever considered coaching any of these sports, or are they more just for fun?
A: “I coached a little soccer for little kids because they always seem to enjoy my positive outlook on how they could all be able to do what they want, they just need to focus and work for it.”
Thanks for reading and thank you, Maliki, for answering my questions,
