Hannah Pripusich,14, is a highly involved, busy young lady. She is involved with soccer, track and dance. She has only recently been doing competitive dance as of last year but has been dancing since she was only three years old. With strong legs and high endurance, she can crush anything life throws at her. She has done jazz the longest at six years, tap, lyrical, ballet and pointe for the shortest at just a year.

Q: Out of the three sports you do, which one is your favorite?

A: I’d say soccer because I love to run, and soccer definitely helps build my endurance.

Q: What made you want to do sports high in running?

A: I love being pushed and increasing my speed and endurance. It’s like an adrenaline junkie, I crave the feeling I get from being winded or pushed. It makes me feel that I’m accomplishing something and bettering myself. It makes me want more and makes me want to strive to go that much farther.

Q: How about the hardest out of the three?

A: Dance would probably be the hardest because of all the skills you need to learn such as certain leaps or turns and the flexibility you need to have.

Q: What is your favorite style of dance?

A: Definitely pointe because it feels so crazy to be able to balance on your toes. It’s a beautiful style in my opinion and builds strength in my legs for other things I’d need it for such as turns or for running.

Q: What style of dance have you found to be the most difficult?

A: Jazz is probably the hardest because of the sass you need to have and making sure you’re sharp and on the beat. Dance styles that are more fluid such as lyrical give you more room for error, so that’s one of the easier ones I’d say.

Q: With just being new to competitive dance, how is having rehearsals different for recitals vs a competition?

A: Rehearsing for recitals is definitely not as nerve-wracking as competitions and there is not as much pressure on you for them. There is a certain amount of dances you do for competitions, whereas the number of recital dances you have are based on the amount of classes you take. Competition rehearsals are also much longer and more frequent.

Q: What would you say is your favorite dance competition moment?

A: My favorite moment was at the very end of a dance routine I had when I was the only one left on stage along with my partner. The feeling you get when everyone starts cheering and rooting you on is unmatchable.

Q: How do you balance school/social life while doing 3 different sports?

A: It’s definitely hard but I guess it’s just all about balance and scheduling things around other activities. It also helps to take turns with each sport i.e. do soccer a portion of the year, then dance the other portion.

Q: I know you did theater too, how was your time involved with that?

A: I love theater and would still be doing it, but considering the pandemic, there haven’t been any opportunities. I’ve met great friends through theater, and it has for sure made me more confident and want to try new things.

Q: Have you done any other sports/extracurriculars?

A: I definitely hopped around from sport to sport when I was younger, but none ever stuck. A few I’d tried were swim, Kung fu, and gymnastics.

Thanks for reading and thank you, Hannah, for answering my questions,
