Robin Sloan creates a story around a main character who is seen as a jack of all trades. From building robots, baking bread and reading books, Lois Clary has a special talent that must be shown off to the world.
Lois works for a robotics company in San Francisco, California, and had little time to eat, so she would order from the same takeout place every single day with the same order. Because of this, she became known as “the number one eater.” The two owners of the shop dropped off items that would change Lois’ life for the better, a sourdough starter and flour to make the bread.
From here, her new life of being a baker started. Though she could only bake sourdough, she caught the interest of an invite-only farmers market in Amadea. From here, she is forced to face a lot of challenges, which spark some plot-twists.
Can robots and baking bread go together? Read the book to find out.
“Sourdough” by Robin Sloan is an easy and quick read that readers will not want to put down. Robin draws people in by showcasing Lois’ story, the life of the restaurant owners and even others named Lois in the San Francisco area.
Despite all of this, it is still easy to follow along.
This book is an example of why someone should never judge a book by its cover or title.
