Today is my last day of being 19, which means tomorrow I will be able to sing “Teenagers” by My Chemical Romance and not have people point out that I am, in fact, a teenager.
19 was an interesting age to be, a lot of life changes occurred during that time. I fell in love, got my heart broken, experienced a pandemic, quit my first job, the list can go on.
Here are the 19 life lessons I have learned during my 19th year on Earth:
You can't force something to work out even if you really want it to
Start doing that one thing you always said you hated and couldn’t do-like running
Apply for a job in a field you have absolutely no experience in-like coaching gymnastics when you aren’t a gymnast
Post as much as possible on Instagram because it’s YOUR account and you can do whatever you want with it
Wearing a face mask is kind of cool and covers your insecurities so WEAR YOUR MASK
If you have a day off, make plans! Don’t sit around all day (unless you need a rest day of course, you do you)
Get a tattoo that has absolutely no meaning besides the fact that you like pineapples
Do not let anyone choose or try to change your major/minor. That is your decision
Ask your friends for gas money
Fight your insecurities and become Vice President of a club for something you are not confident about-like Dance Club
Perform a dance you choreographed in front of random people on a stage, no matter how nervous you are
WRITE THAT BOOK, DO THAT THING!!!!
You can live a happy life without that boy you thought you were going to spend the rest of your life with
Buy yourself flowers
Start reading again
Hangout with people you don’t normally hangout with. It’s not as awkward as you think
Your emo phase will come back, you will just dress better
If you want Steak N’ Shake, you choose Steak N’ Shake and not what the other person wants because you deserve to MAKE YOUR OWN DECISIONS and you will be angry about having to go to the other food place instead months later
Your skin does not define you. You have acne, oh well, get over it
Here’s to being 20 and my first year of not being a teenager. Please God, make it a good year.
